HVAC Tips for Pet Owners

Did you know that your pet has a direct effect on the quality of air you breathe in your home? Keep your system running smoothly all summer by following these helpful HVAC tips.

Clean Pets = Clean Air Pollen and dirt can accumulate in your pet's fur overtime. These particles can potentially cause allergies and circulate throughout your home, reducing the air quality. So, brushing and bathing your cats and dogs can significantly cut down the amount of hair in your home, especially with long haired pets.

Keep Your House Clean Pet hair and dander are in every corner of your home, whether you see it or not. Be sure to vacuum, sweep, wipe down, and mop to keep up with your pet's daily routines.

Clean Your Filters Regular grooming doesn't necessarily stop your pet's hair from clogging up your air filters. Set a reminder on your phone to change your filters every 30-60 days or the efficiency of your unit may decrease, causing an increase in energy consumption.

Protect Your Outdoor Unit If you have dogs, keep a close eye on your outside unit. Sometimes they will claw at it, potentially bending or breaking the fins. Some dogs may also "mark" or urinate on HVAC units, which can lead to corrosion of the coils. Consider putting a fence or hedge around the unit, as long as there is at least 2 ft. of open space all around.

Regular Maintenance Check your heating and cooling system yourself or hire a professional to do the job for you. Either way, you need to maintain your system regularly to prevent the spread of allergens brought by having pets in your home.
