Service FAQs

What time will the technicians arrive at my home for my new furnace and/or air conditioner?


Expect a technician to arrive between 8:30-9:00 am to install your new heating and cooling system.




What brands of equipment do you work on?


We service all brands, makes and models of equipment and stock many parts for them.




What do you charge to come out?


Our regular business hours travel and diagnostic is $89 and overtime rate is $129. Our tech will then tell you the cost of the repair. Repairs are over and above the travel and diagnostic fee. Repairs are done on a flat rate system. When he quotes you a repair cost, it will include part and labor. Should the repair time be longer than anticipated, you are not charged additional labor as we do not do an hourly rate.




What are your business hours?


Our first call of the day is 8 am and the start of the last call is 4 pm Monday through Friday.




Do you service appliances and window air conditioners?


No, we do not service appliances or window air conditioners. We do service and install water heaters.




Do you service or install water heaters?


Yes, we service all brands, makes and models. For models we can install for replacement, call the office at 515-965-7272.




Can you invoice me for services?


Our technicians do collect at the time of service for all repairs and installation of replacements unless arrangements were made ahead of time with the office.




Will you install equipment that I purchase from somewhere else?


In general, no we do not but call the office with specific information to confirm.




How long does a tune up take?


In general you can plan on the technician working on your equipment for about an hour when doing a tune up or your maintenance (MAP) visit on one piece of equipment.




What are your office hours?


7:30 am – 5 pm Monday through Friday.





Sales FAQs

Does 72 Degrees install gas logs and gas fireplaces?


We do not sell or install fireplaces but we service and offer maintenace on your gas fireplace.




When getting an estimate to replace my heating and cooling system how much time should I allow for the sales call?


Please allow up to 2 hours for your consultation. It could take less time depending on how many questions you have and how complicated your system is.




What is involved in the average sales call when replacing my heating and cooling system?


Your 72 Degrees Sales Person will assess your existing heating and cooling system, performa load calculation on your home to ensure proper sizing, and work with you to design the perfect heating and cooling system for your home?




What is the average installed cost of a furnace and air conditioner?


Every installation is unique. Because there are a variety of factors that will impact the price of your system it is difficult to give an average price. The best way to find out the installed price of your new system is to have one of our trained Sales People come to your home and design a system that is perfect for you and your home. There is no charge for this consultation. You can email our sales department at sales@72degrees.com




Does 72 Degrees install water heaters?


Yes, we install Bradford White water heaters. Please visit the water heater portion of our website for more information.




What is a load calculation?


A load calculation is how we size your new furnace and air conditioning system for your home. We will measure the square footage in your home, all the windows, doors, and the insulation values. These measurements are entered into a Manual J Load Calculation computer program which tells us the total btu heating and cooling need for your home.




Can I purchase parts or equipment from you?


Most parts can be purchased from us over the counter. We do not sell equipment that we do not install.





Maintenance FAQs

Do you offer a maintenance program?


Yes, we have our Maintenance Agreement Program (MAP).




What does your maintenance program (MAP) include?


We come out twice a year, once for your furnace and once for your air conditioner. We do a complete tune up on the equipment and change out the filters. The MAP also includes manyadditional benefits while on the program. Should you have any problems, we waive the traveland diagnostic fee whether it’s regular business hours or after hours and if parts are needed,you receive a discount along with the guarantee of priority service.




What if I sell my house and still have a visit coming on my maintenance program (MAP)?


You can have the remaining visit transferred to the new owners as a perk for the to help sell the home. If you wish to get a refund, call the office and we will prorate the time remaining.





Rebates & Tax Credits FAQs

What rebates and credits are available on a new furnace and air conditioner system?


The rebates and credits for furnace and air conditioners change throughout the year. The efficiency of the heating and cooling equipment will affect the rebates. Please consult the rebates and credits portion of our web site for complete information. Click here to read more.




How do I get the rebates and credits with my new furnace and air conditioner installation?


72 Degrees will file any Lennox and MidAmerican Energy rebates your new systems qualifiesfor. All you have to do is sign the completed MidAmerican Energy rebate paperwork at the time of the installation and we take it from there. You don’t have to sign anything for the Lennox rebates.




How long will it take to get my rebates?


Expect 4-6 weeks to get your Lennox and MidAmerican Energy Rebates.





Filters FAQs

What is the difference between a 1" filter and a 5" filter?


A 5” filter has a higher MERV rating. A MERV rating determined how fine a particulate the filter will catch. The higher the MERV rating, the smaller a particle the filter will remove from the air. 5” filters catch more dust and dirt than 1” filter.




Are there any products that can help with my family's allergies?


There are a number of different Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) products that can help with your allergies. Ultraviolet lights, Thicker High Grade Filters, and Fresh Air Ventilation Systems to name a few. Please consult a 72 Degrees professional to find out which of these products would help you.




Where can I purchase furnace or humidifier filters?


We stock and sell over the counter most sizes of filters. Our office is open 7:30 am –5 pm Monday through Friday. 811 SW Ordnance Road Ankeny, IA 50023.




What is this orange and white filter in my furnace?


We recommend, sell, and install Fiberbond filters which are orange on one side and white onthe other. We feel they are a better filter than the standard 1” wide filter with the cardboard frame. The fiberbond frame is on the inside of the filter which keeps air from flowing around the outside of the frame and not being filtered. We recommend changing them every 3 months. The orange side is facing the furnace when installing.




How do I know which direction to install my filter?


Filters with the cardboard frame around the outside have an airflow arrow and the arrow should point towards the furnace. The orange and white Fiberbond filters should have the orange side towards the furnace.




How often should I change my filter?


1” filters should be checked monthly and changed as needed. Fiberbond filters typically need to be changed every 3 months and the type with the cardboard frame typically should be changed monthly. Thicker filters like 4” or 5” typically should be changed every 6 months to 1 year.




What does Merv mean on my filter?


The acronym MERV stands for "Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value." MERV ratings are used to rate the ability of an air cleaner filter to remove dust from the air as it passes through thefilter. MERV is a standard used to measure the overall efficiency of a filter. Fiberbond filters are a Merv 8 rated filter.




Where is the filter for my furnace located?


Generally the filter is located on the side of your furnace between the furnace and the cold air return duct work towards the lower half of your furnace. Mobile home furnaces the filter is inside the door of the furnace. GeoThermal systems the filter is on the side of the unit.





Humidifiers FAQs

My house is extremely dry in the winter. What are my options?


We recommend a whole house humidifier. For more information on humidifiers, click here.




What whole house humidifier is right for my home?


An Aprilaire Bypass Humidifier Model 600 will work in homes up to 2500 sq ft An Aprilaire Power Humidifier Model 700 will work in homes up to 3500 sq ft An Aprilaire Steam Humidifier Model 800 will work in homes 3500 sq ft and above




Do you work on humidifiers?


Yes, we service all brands, makes, and models of whole house humidifiers. We do not service the stand alone room humidifiers.
