Your Fall HVAC Checklist

Time to put away your t-shirts and shorts, fall is here! While having your HVAC system professionally cleaned may not be in your budget, here are some do-it-yourself tips you can check-off to keep your system healthy this season.

Check and Replace your Air Filters Inspecting your air filter is the most important thing you can do at home yourself; dirty air filters make your HVAC system less efficient. Depending on the type of filter, it may need to be replaced as often as once per month if you run your system frequently.

Keep your AC and Heating System Free of Debris If you have an outdoor unit, it's important to keep it free of dirt and debris. Remove anything that can block airflow into the system and turn the power off when washing away all the dirt that has accumulated over the summer. This will increase your system's efficiency and lifespan.

Clean Your Registers It's important to keep your registers clean of dust and debris. Wipe them down and keep your vents open so that heat can circulate properly throughout your home.

Listen for Unusual Noises Keep your ears open for unusual noises when your system is running. Strange noises may be caused by blocked registers, debris in vents, or loose bolts. It's best to call a professional if you can't locate the source of the noise.

Taking preventative action is important for your HVAC's efficiency and performance but there are some tasks better left to the professionals. If you have any questions or need to schedule your annual preventative maintenance call 72 Degrees Comfort Company at 515-965-7272 or email us at office@72degrees.com.
