5 Tips For Better Indoor Air Quality

Do you ever think about how safe the air is inside of your home? Some simple changes can be made in your daily life to ensure that you are breathing cleaner air in your home. Indoor air quality can be just as bad or sometimes even worse than the air we breathe outside. Here are some immediate steps that you can take to get cleaner air in your indoor space.

Change all air filters

Built-up dust and debris in your air filter will eventually stop cycling out all of the air. Dirty air filters can do a great deal in making your indoor air, not the most ideal to breathe. Not only that but forgetting to change your filter at least every 2-3 months can clog up your system and make it work harder than it needs to. Check your air filter today to see if it needs to be switched out for a new one.

If you want your air to be extra clean, check other household items that include filters. For example, your vacuum cleaner, clothes dryer, vents, and other household appliances should be accounted for.

Use Cooking Vents

A lot of indoor pollutants come from simply cooking in the kitchen. Gas and electric stoves release harmful toxins including carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide. Although these levels are typically low, they can still contaminate your home's air. To keep these levels at bay, turn on your cooking fan or open a window while you are cooking. It will help filter out the air even more.

Keep Rugs and Carpet Clean

Rugs and carpets can easily trap dust and other particles. Make sure to clean your rug and carpeted areas weekly and they will continue to trap more particles that you can clean! Also, as mentioned earlier, don’t forget to clean your vacuum filter when you’re done!

Control Humidity

Humidity in the air makes it a great place for mold and mildew to grow. This can lead to respiratory issues, allergies, and asthma if the problem is not handled promptly. Curb the growth of these fungi by placing a couple of humidifiers in the areas of your home that it is humid. There are a variety of humidifier options that come with great benefits. Talk to your local heating and cooling company about what options are right for your home.
